The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice. Grab a book, any book. Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader (If you have to improvise, that's ok.) Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it).
This week I'm featuring
FORTUNE'S ROCKS BY ANITA SHREVE
Here's my P56:
"Olympia takes a chair near the proceedings and watches Haskell work. And as she watches, she discovers that a dream creates a nonexistent intimacy, that one feels, all the next day after the dream, as though certain words have been said and actions taken which have not. So the object of the dream feels familiar, when, in fact, no familiarity exists at all."
It has been a while since I have read an Anita Shreve. I hope I love this one as much as I have enjoyed her other books, which I read a long time ago. Sometimes when I return to an author I read years ago, they are not as good as I remember, because I’ve read so much since then, and maybe grown up a bit?
BookBeginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader. To participate, share the opening lines and your thoughts about a book you're reading, or about to.
In the time it takes for her to walk from the bathhouse at the seawall of Fortune’s Rocks, where she has left her boots and has discreetly pulled off her stockings, to the waterline along which the sea continually licks the pink and silver sand, she learns about desire.
Here's the cover.
UPDATE - Fortune's Rocks just got better and better. Here's my review.
Guess the cover talked to you, huh? I love browsing bookstores.

Oh, I love the sound of this one, which I have apparently missed along the way. I haven't read the author in a while, but have loved her books. Hope you enjoy this one! Thanks for visiting my blog.
It sure did. I love settings close to the sea, especially when I am on vacation there!
I enjoyed this book several years ago, and I featured STELLA BAIN on my blog on Tuesday. Anita Shreve is one of my favorite authors.
Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment.

Sounds good. I've never read the author. I am trying very hard to stay out of bookstores - old or new - until I make some kind of a dent in my TBR mountain. Happy reading!
I also missed this one - read quite a few, including The Pilot's Wife, which is set in the same place as this one.
I will check your Tuesday post out - thanks for returning the visit.
You're not wrong. And second hand bookshops are just the best!
Love novels set by the ocean...
I don't think this would be the book for me, but I hope you enjoy it. :-)
I read this when it first came out and enjoyed it. Shreve is pretty solid. Slowly layers the story, but it all comes together. Enjoy!
Thanks for the visit anyway!
Thanks. Have a great weekend.
I love used bookstores! Hope you enjoy that one! Thanks for stopping by my blog.
I didn't realize at first this was an Anita Shreve book. I love her voice and this sounds like a good read.
Great cover art and I can almost feel the salty air on my face!! I love anything by the beach, especially all the quaint bookstores along the coastline. I'm not familiar with the author, so thanks for sharing this one.
I really like the beginning and the 56 is good too...I don't think I've ever read anything by Ms. Shreve. Thanks for visiting my Friday meme
Such strong writing. Describes exactly how I feel after a dream.
My Friday 56 from Titans
Love this excerpt, I can relate so much to it. Sometimes dreams follow you into your waking hours. Happy weekend!
Thanks, and thanks for visiting me
I am getting less nervous as I continue. She is as good as I remember...
Pleasure, her most famous was The Pilot's Wife. Quite beautiful, and a movie was made, I think.
Right? Worse when you are angry with the dreamee...
It's great when an author writes your experiences for you to enjoy.
I'd like more. I know the author, though can't recall if I read the book I have or not...
Thanks for the push to read another of her books.
I haven't read one in a long time.
I hope you are enjoying your weekend.
