Friday Books - the punishment she deserves

Friday means the weekend is upon us, time to read.

At Book Beginningshosted by Rose City Reader, you share the first line, and  a few thoughts about the book.

Here's the beginning of the book I'm featuring today.

I've read a few of the earlier Inspector Lynley novels. I was going nicely, in order, and now I've skipped ahead to #20. Can't say I'm sorry though, I loved this one. It's an investigation into an apparent suicide - in a police holding cell - of a son of one of the constituents of the small town of Ludlow. But it's also a chance to see if Barbara Havers, who has clearly been in trouble, is up to the task, or at the end of her career; and why is the MP of Ludlow getting involved and asking through Scotland Yard?

At Freda's Voice, you'll find the Friday56, where the excerpt comes from page 56 or 56% in your Kindle.

Here's page 56 of the punishment she deserves by Elizabeth George.

Are you ever reading, and then you realise you're on page 56, and your eyes start dashing over the page, looking for a quote to share? Happens to me all the time - I love it.

This was an easy one - I loved the humour of the waiter in this small English town hotel. I can see his wry expression as he delivers the last line.

What are you reading this weekend? I'd love to visit your blog and check it out.

Sounds good. I've never read this series. I should look for a copy of book 1. Mine is from The Point by John Dixon - a science fiction thriller from my review stack. Happy reading!
