Friday Books

On Fridays I participate in BookBeginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and The Friday 56 - hosted by Freda’s Voice. Both involve sharing excerpts from a current book - the beginning and - you guessed it - page 56.

This week's book-

Click the cover for the Goodreads blurb.

Beginning:
They were fighting over apples again. He wanted to grow more eaters to eat; she wanted spitters, to drink.

Here's my p56
There were so many people campin that we were a ways from the platform where the preachers stood so everybody could see dem and hear em. Once Id made sure people had seen me do my share of stirrin the pot and Nathan and Robert had brought back armfuls of wood, I slipped off to hear some God talk.

Set in Ohio, in 1838, James and Sadie Goodenough plant apples, fight, and get older.

Don't you love the dialogue? It makes me wonder though, if the author got annoyed at autocorrect (probably turned it off completely) - if you want to say campin, it's not camping, or campaign!

Tell me what you're reading, and I'll pay you a visit. Happy reading everyone.

The dialogue is pretty interesting. I haven't heard of this one before, so thanks for sharing about it. :-)

Yeah. I can see where the auto correct would be pinging! LOL Sounds like an interesting story.

That dialogue did clue me in to the era a little and possibly the background of the speaker. Thanks for sharing...enjoy! And thanks for visiting my blog.

I do love the dialogue and I've been wanting to read this author. Auto correct is always mystifying at how they choose to correct things. It drives me crazy!

I like the beginning a lot. As for the dialog, I think I'd have a hard time turning off my own autocorrect!

Thanks for playing along on BBOF, even though I didn't have a Mr. Linky this week!

The phrasing drove me absolutely nuts so I doubt I'd read it. Maybe chuck it against a wall.... lol... Happy Memorial Day long weekend!

The snippets sounds good! Honestly, though, I would probably read it just because it was set in my home state! :)

Check out my Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings).

The dialogue is something! I wonder if it would get tiresome or if the reader would get used to it as the story progressed. Sounds like an interesting story, though.

This sounds interesting - I like the idea of meeting Johnny Appleseed and getting seeds directly from him - thanks for visiting my Friday meme

I love books that are written more phonetically, it really captures the voice of the narrator. Of course, then I spend the next few days trying to not to speak in the same accent. Nice pick!

Oh this looks good. I love the dialogue . I will be putting this on my wishlist. Happy reading.

The dialogue was kind of annoying in these short spurts, but I bet it really draws you in when you can relax into it in the full text.

"I slipped off to hear some God talk" .... makes me think of my gramps and his sisters and how they would talk. Definitely one to pick up, I think!
